Walker's Shortbread is the fastest growing brand in our sector in the UK and distributed across more than 120 countries worldwide. Our products are sold across the full spectrum of consumer channels, from grocers to global travel retail, from garden centres to gift shops and we are making significant investments to increase the pace of growth for the long term. But we have not lost sight of our roots. Walker's Shortbread remains a family-owned business established more than 125 years ago and our heritage and commitment to making the very best bakery products remains central to our purpose.
The Category & Consumer Insights Manager will step-change our category department, putting market and consumer insights at the heart of what we do to deliver this growth by working across the business with departments such as Commercial, Strategy, Marketing and Product Innovation and most importantly, interacting directly with our retail customers in support of our Sales teams.
Key responsibilities will include:
Supporting the development of an overarching category strategy, with key deliverables identified by channel and customer prioritisation
Providing detailed analysis and insights on category performance and opportunities by customer
Providing analytical and story-boarding support in development of category plans
Communicating with internal colleagues to deliver regular updates on market trends, consumer insights, brand perception and industry intelligence
Developing our knowledge of market dynamics, such as pricing elasticity, promotional performance, range architecture, NPD performance, etc.
Assimilating disparate data sources, such as EPOS, qual research, quant research and market trend papers, to develop an ongoing view of the consumer 'story'
Contributing to our innovation pipeline planning and prioritisation with market analysis
The ideal candidate will have FMCG insight experience, either with another FMCG manufacturer or agency side (eg. Kantar, Neilsen, iRi/Circana) and an understandng of Category Management principles. You must be able to demonstrate the ability to develop category relationships with grocery, convenience and discounter retailers and participate in range reviews and developing rationale for new listings.
